Precis Writing in Bank exams

The below are some of the rules/guidelines for precis writing:
1.      Read the given passage and understand it thoroughly.
2.      Underline all the essential ideas in the passage.
3.      Find out the central idea of the passage and use it as title of the passage. Title should not be a sentence in the passage.
4.      Write out a rough draft what you have underlined the essential ideas.
5.      Observe the following principles while writing précis writing:
·         Your précis must comprise only one paragraph. Though there are any numbers of paragraphs.
·         Your précis must be one-third of the given passage.
·         Your précis must be free from errors of grammars, spelling, usage, etc.
·         You must write your précis in your own English. i.e don’t repeat the same sentence from the passage in the summary.
·         The summary or précis of a passage has to be expressed in the fewest and clearest words possible. In a summary you should mention only important points and leave out all unnecessary details.
·         Do not add any new idea to summary.
·         Don’t use your own opinion/views about the passage.
·         The most important thing is your précis should be able to convey the ideas expressed in the original passage.

SBI Associates PO Pattern - 2010

Written Examination consists of two parts:
i)Objective Test(Time = 120minutes Marks =200):
It will comprise of four sections namely:
1)Test of English Language                                            50Q     50Marks
2)Test of GA, Marketing, Computer Awareness            50Q     50Marks
3)Test of Data Analysis & Interpretation               50Q     50Marks
4)Test of High Level Reasoning                                    50Q     50Marks
Note: Questions on the above sections(especially 3rd & 4th sections) are quite complex compared to what you faced for previous Bank PO exams. For each questions you will get 1mark. For every wrong answer 0.25 mark will be deducted.
In order to clear the objective test based on the Time and the No. of questions given with maintaining 95% accuracy. Time duration for each Section is shown below(This is an example only):
1)English                                         35Q     30Min
2)GA, Marketing, Computer           35Q     20Min
3)DA & Interpretation             35Q     35Min
4)Reasoning                                     35Q     35Min
ii)Descriptive(Time = 60minutes Marks =50):
It will consist of:
->Letter Writing
-> Précis Writing
->Essay.
Note: This paper will be evaluated only if you qualify in the Objective test only with high in percentile ranking. Both Objective(all sections) & Descriptive are to be reckoned for Merit ranking. The Total marks considered for the written exam is 250(200+50).

Padma Awards 2009

Padma Awards, the country’s highest civilian awards, are conferred in three categories, namely, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri.  The awards are given in all disciplines/ fields of activities, viz. art, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports, civil service, etc. 
‘Padma Vibhushan’ is awarded for exceptional and distinguished service.
‘Padma Bhushan’ for distinguished service of high order.
‘Padma Shri’ for distinguished service in any field.
 This year (2009) the President has approved 130 awards including 13 in the category of Foreigners/ NRIs/ PIOs. These comprise 6 Padma Vibhushan, 43 Padma Bhushan and 81 Padma Shri awards.  There are 17 ladies among the awardees.
List of Padma Vibhusan 2009 awardees:
1.      Shri Ebrahim Alkazi (Arts) from Delhi.
2.      Shri Umayalpuram K.Sivaraman (Arts) from Tamilnadu.
3.      Smt. Zohra Segal (Arts) from Delhi.
4.      Dr. Yaga Venugopal Reddy (Public Affairs) from Andhra Pradesh.
5.      Dr. Venkatraman Ramakrishnan (science & Engineering) from UK.
6.      Dr. Prathap Chandra Reddy (Trade & Industry) from Tamilnadu.
