Selection Process in SBI

Selection Process in State Bank of India for Clerical Positions:

2) Personal Interview

Written Examination:
It will Comprise of Five Objective type of tests

1) General Awareness--------------------40 Questions--------------40 Marks
2) English---------------------------------40 Questions--------------40 Marks
3) Quantitative Aptitude------------------40 Questions------------ -40 Marks
4) Reasoning ability----------------------40 Questions----------- --40 Marks

Note: Each question carriers 1 mark. 0.25 marks will be deducted for every wrong answer. No Descriptive Paper.

 Time Management for Each Section:

1) General Awareness-----20 minutes
Note: There will be no Long questions in this Section as there in PO General Awareness Section. So you can attempt in 20 minutes if you are prepared. There will be direct questions. Attempt minimum of 25-30 questions with 90% accuracy. Most of the Questions are asked for the months between March and August. Particularly Union & Railway budget 09-10.

2) General English-----------30 minutes
Note: English is not only for qualifying. Marks will be added to final List. Attempt minimum              of 25-30 questions withy 90% accuracy.

3) Quantitative Aptitude----30 minutes
Note: Attempt minimum of 25-30 questions with 95%-100%.

4) Reasoning Ability---------30 minutes

5) Marketing & Computer---25 minutes
Note: Attempt minimum of 25-30 questions with 90% accuracy. Very Basic questions are asked. It’s enough to read previous papers from various books available in the market. Almost same questions are repeated.

So if you score a total of more than 120 out of 200 Marks with clearing in each section (40%) you are in safe side.

Order of Attempting Sections:

1) First take either Aptitude or Reasoning as you like and complete within 1hour with a minimum of 30 questions in each section.
2) Next go for English and complete with 30 minutes.
3) Next go for either General Awareness or Marketing & Computer Basics as you like and complete with the remaining 45 minutes with a minimum of 30 questions in each questions.

Important note to all SBI Clerical Aspirants:

As there is Heavy Competition (36 lakhs applied for this post for 11,000 vacancies) don’t upset yourself and don’t lose your confident. Actually there will be competition for only 10%-15% aspirants in 36 lakhs members. So don’t think there will be 36 lakhs competitors. Almost 85% are just applied and they just trying for a lottery/luck because SBI is a good bank with huge vacancies. As if you are a true & Sincere Aspirant you can get the job. And don’t expect the same questions which were conducted on 8th will also repeat for the exams conducted on 15th & 22nd.There will be different sets (almost 12 sets for the 3days programme).

thanx fr the informative post :)
can u help me in gk. i m very weak at it. what can be the pssible cutoff for gk. other section i will manage but quite afraid of gk section

Varun Reddy said...

Why cant u put ur name on the board?
Ok..minimum Cutt-off for every section is 40%(35% for sc/st).It is the compulsory. After qualifying in every section they will take the total marks.
Suppose If there are 100 positions in 'OC category'...in general they will the call the 300 candidates (1:3)from the top taking their totals into the account.(dont think that if u qualify in all the sections having 40% you are be called for interview).
You told you are good enough in all sections except GK.
Try to qualify in Gk section(say 15-18 in SBI out of 40) and score more in remaining sections.so that your total may be balanced.

hi Varun,
i am very weak in General Awareness... I attended the SBI exam on 15th Nov 2009.. I felt i can clear in all the other sections but i was not able to answer even 10 questions correctly in GA.... is it easy to clear the GA section if we read Competitive success review? pls suggest some idea(Magazine) to clear GA...

Varun Reddy said...

Hi Subhashini,
Every aspirant writing banking exams feel that GA section is tough when compared to other ections. That is true. You must have broad knowledge about what is happening around the world & in India and simple terms related to banking. This will come by
reading books like CSR,prathiyogita darpan,Executive makers.I
think it is broad enough for SBI exam. But you must read for the
books atleast fivemonths ago(say may to august for SBI exam).Reading only is not enough, but you have remember it.This comes you by understanding the concept behind it.Coming to SBI exam we can attempt around 20-25 questions. They consists of some simple, basic & direct questions. If you have attended the second shift on 15-11-09 you might see the questions like where is the headquarters of NCDEX stock exchange.you cant find the questions like this....if you know the basic standards that that almost all major stock exchanges have headquartered in MUMBAI only becoz it is the financial capital of India.Like this standard things you have to know.by knowing this you can attempt extra 3 or 4 bits.

Hi mono....
I don't know with how much accuracy you attempted 145 bits...????
If your accuracy is between around 90%-95% than there is a chance to clear the exam....!!!!
Moreover your location(state you applied-no of seats are available) and and your caste also can vary your results.....!!!
As known to me some people attempted 180+ bits(but they must maintain accuracy...bcoz -ve marking is there)
Anyway hope for the best...and be positive...!!!

Hii...I wrote SBI exam on 8th for SBM, i am confident of getting 130 marks..am general candidate..400 vacncy for karnataka...is ther any chance ..??

Varun Reddy said...

If you are sure of getting 130 marks out of 200 you will definitely qualify for the exam.....bcoz As i known Competition is less in Karnataka when compared to other states...!!After the results post our view...

hello sir, thanks for replying...i'm based in calcutta...competition is high here...so keeping my fingers crossed...also i'd be writing the idbi bank po soon...this is my first po test so it'd be nice if u could guide me on the percentage of the paper i shud attempt (with good acuracy) to get a call for the interview...thanks in advance

Varun Reddy said...

Hi Mono,
I don't know how many questions will be in each section..but same sections(Quant,Reasoning,English,GA)will be there...Attempt Max no questions with min 85%-90% accuracy...Don't need to keep ur fingers crossed...forget about the word 'Competition'....Be confident and Be positive...If ur not...don't worry try for another exam until you get Confident..!!!
But dont lose ur patience...!!!And more over you have the post for Assistant Manager(AM) in IDBI not PO.
A PO will become AM after successful completion of 2 years.
